KEP BIG TRIP

On the 31 of March 2016, our Liger school have a big trip to Kep province. I call it a KEP BIG TRIP because it not only students and some teachers like we usually did for exploration but it is the trip for the whole school. There are 90 people in total including students, teachers, kitchen stuff, RE, and others. We spend our Thursday and Friday in Kep jestmen valley then we went on to Rabbit Island. While we are in Kep jestmen valley we did many activities. One of them is working in a team and using GPS to find the treasure. This game is not a race and it not for a win or lose but I still want to tell you that my team comes the first after finding all the treasure on an 8 km walk and hike around the mountain.

After this hike, we went swimming in Rabbit Island on Saturday. We eat and swim, eat and swim, swim and eat for the whole day then we have a slideshow of the picture, podcast about Cambodian Spiritual, dancing and time for bed. Well, on Sunday we pack our staff and head back to school. I notice that it is the funniest trip that the whole school has together after four years and we don’t think that we could do this again because the next year there will be more students and maybe more stuff, so it is hard to move a hundred people all around for trip.

Sonnet

I am a diamond in my parent’s eyes
Adorable, intelligent and kind
Aggressive and sometimes a little shy
But I’m still in everyone’s heart and mind

My laugh usually makes them both happy
My smile makes friends and teachers want to stay
But I’m still crying and sometimes I’m silly
That why my aunt still want to leave today

Many people would like to play with me
Play game, reading, writing and have a talk
But I’m a girl that likes to stay lonely
Sometimes quite and want to have a walk

I end up with no one understand me
That why I born with Rith Sovannary

Project Base-Learning

Project-based learning is an educational method that involves inspiring students in problem-solving and investigative activities to gain deeper knowledge, skills, and experiences; giving students the opportunity to actively explore challenging questions and real-world problems outside of the classroom resulting in realistic products, solutions or other outcomes.

We are the group of students that want to change Cambodian Government school curriculum. We knew that many students start to get boring in class after sitting for 2 hours and listening to a teacher. So we come up with the ideas of focus on four main points (study in the real world, researching, problem-solving and product or outcome). So far we have been working with Chbar Ampov high school and Krojes Krong high school in Kratie. We can see that they have changed a lot in the past week. Most of them happy to work in the groups, brave to do the presentation in front of many people and they know how to interview people in a polite way. Not from this observation but we also can see from our evaluation team that students really want to have this PBL in their school and they hope we can go and do this project again with them.

Marine Conservation Cambodia

We are Marine Conservation Cambodia is a group of 12 students from the Liger Learning Center, in Phnom Penh, learned about marine conservation in Cambodia, during seven weeks long project.  The group researched to learn more about marine life and understand the problems of marine ecosystems in Cambodia. The biggest goal of this Exploration is to protect marine ecosystems in Cambodia. To accomplish this goal we worked really hard to finish the Proposal for a Feasibility Study of Algal Farming as an Alternative Livelihood for Cambodian Fishermen. This document explains a major problem for Cambodian marine ecosystems, a possible solution, the proposal for a feasibility study that would include all Liger senior students 2016 – 2017, and information about what was learned in this pilot Exploration. We also took a trip to Kep province to visit MCC which is an organization that is working on the protected marine ecosystem around Koh Seh. We spent 1 week on the island for researching and learning about seahorse habitat, history of the bunker on the island, learning about the organism on the island and in the sea. We also get a chance to snorkel, scuba dive, and other activities.

Medicational Plants

My Independent Discovery is about Medicational Plants. I have been working on it for about 2 months by my own and get some help from one of my teacher (Karen). In this project, I do research about the benefit of many plants species for our health.  Right now I have 33 species in my document such as herbs, vegetable, and fruit. After this research am going to turn some of the information into the book and share it with the community people that near my school campus. I also share my research to Cook Book Exploration. They are going to study how it benefits to the health, and they are going to think that is it the good plants that they should include in their Cookbook or not. I am very proud of myself that I can share my study to the other friends, especially I know that the work that I have been working for 2 months is useful for the other people.

Minister Day at Liger

On 12th January 2016 Liger school have a big sharation of sharing the school curriculum to around 50 people from the Minister of Education, Youth, and Sport.  We rotated them around the building to see our presentation. I was presenting in Khmer and English Literacy class which is on Khmer section.  Everyone in the group was presented in Khmer. My friends and I were very nervous because this is the first time that we presented to His and Her excellency and we needed to make sure that when they left our class they got what Liger goals and curriculum on Literacy. After we presented some of them asked us questions and some gave feedback. Every time they asked or gave feedback my heart jump very fast but I still smile. I think this is one of the good experiences for me to feel like the other people when they get a chance to present to the Minister.

Idiom : See eye to eye

In Literacy class this year everyone learns idioms. We learn many of them and each one of us makes a poster for it to hang on a wall. I also make one. My idiom is See Eye To Eye. If you read it at the first time without knowing it is an idiom I think you will confuse it with people look at each other with eye to eye. If you want to know the real meaning of this, then check it out down here.

3D Design Description

In between 2013 and 2014 Everyone had participated in 3D Design Exploration with Kichong. This class we learned about how to become the businesswoman/man and how to design a 3D in 123D Design. Some people also prefer Blender to do it. Everyone has their own group and they need to come up with many creative ideas of a 3D printer product. At the end, they only choose their favorite to be their product and try to run the business with it. My partner (Sopor) and I were focusing on the bracelet. We make the small, round, bead with the letter on it. We choose to design the English letter because of it easier than Khmer. We have it in any color. We try to sell it to some students at school and some staff. It was very good by the way. Then we get to sell it to the other school students and Laura Mam (Cambodian Stars) also wear our bracelet. We didn’t sell to her but we get an opportunity to gave her and it also a good idea by advertisements. In the whole round of this Exploration, my teams are the one who sells lots of products. We sell 429 of them.

Entrepreneurship Description

Hey! In this year my first Exploration is Entrepreneurship. This Exploration was focused on a chili sauce business. We learn in class with our entrepreneurship curriculum and brainstorm about some ideas of starting the business. Our big goal, by the end of the year, is for our chili sauce business is to have a marketable and scalable business plan to pitch to investors. Part of our business plan will be producing 100 samples of our sauce, bottles and labeled. Right now we are only on step four of 12 of business, developing our product and sampling our sauce with customers and getting feedback. In class, we divided into four small groups. They are Production group, Advertising group, Financial group and Market Study group. In around 3 or 4 weeks of our exploration, we had bought some chili sauce from the other company to try with our students and staff.  We asked them to choose their flavor from scale 1 to 5. So far in this round, we have made three type of chili sauce after we survey the students and staff with the sauce that we bought from the outside. We didn’t name it yet but we called it Spicy Sauce, Ginger Sauce, and the Pumpkin sauce. We called it by the ingredients that we use in it. I and my production team didn’t copy all the recipes and ingredients from the other company. We just go throw the recipes that they have, then try out with the different recipes by combining many different ingredients and vegetable. It was very hard to cook at the first time but when we did it 2 to 3 time we adapt to it.
